(Excerpt from William Odell Tolman: Patriarch, Genealogist, Teacher compiled by Loraine Tolman Pace, First Edition, 2009, pages 50-51).
Saturday, 3 May 1930: A new Elder (Jules Gillette) came in today and we played a fast trick on him. The other three Elders Gurney, Freestone and McAllister met him at the station and brought him up to the office. I was dressed as a minister and I came in and was introduced as Rev. Wilson. Elder Freestone left the room with excuse of posting a letter and the others had previously left with excuse of returning to their lodge. So then I began on the poor fellow. I feel guilty almost. Soon Elder Freestone returned and what a relief. Then the other two came back and they took him away to a street meeting. I arrived there later and was still a minister he thought; then imagine his surprise when Elder Gurney called on me to speak. Elder Gillette is a humble boy, knowing nothing of the gospel. He is a little lonesome
and homesick. But he is made of real stuff and eventually will become a real missionary. How I enjoy explaining the gospel to him.
