(Hattie Stinger Tolman shares her memory of her father’s return from the mission field. William Alvin Tolman is pictured third from the left on the second row).
“I remember two experiences pa told us about when he was on his mission. About the time he was to be released to go home from his mission he didn’t know where he was going to get any money for the train ride home. He had been praying about it. One day, he and his companion were holding a street meeting and a man came out of the crowd, handed him some money, and then disappeared. The money was the exact amount that he needed for his train fare. Pa said that he was sure that the man must have been one of the Three Nephites. He also didn’t know what he was going to use for money to buy something to eat on the way home. While on the train homeward bound, there was a woman that saw that pa hadn’t eaten anything the whole way. She asked him if he would like to share her lunch because she had packed an extra large one. These two experiences were a great testimony to my pa of how the Lord hears and answers our prayers.”(Contributed by Hattie Tolman Stinger, daughter of William Alvin Tolman and Hattie Naomi Tolman).
