This is the approximate location of William Alvin and Hattie Naomi Tolman’s second home where they lived beginning around 1910. This home was a three-room log house with an 80-acre farm in the community known as Island. Five of their eleven children were born in this home: William Odell (1910), Alma (1912), Marvin (1914), Alvin (1916), and Wendell (1919). Armenia writes about getting up at 5:00 a.m. to turn the hand washer and then walk 2.5 miles to school. Her father William Alvin would wake the children up early in the morning by whistling, humming tunes, or playing his harmonica.
